MEMORIES
Thursday, July 15, 2010 • Posted July 15, 2010

For two weeks I had the privilege of going to Bible camp with over 100 children in Brady, TX. Camp is always tiring but it is a great deal of fun and learning. I am recuperating from the heat and late nights and early mornings. While at camp there were many precious memories that were made that will last forever. Most of these are good and I have made some new friends. Some of the things that I did were done for the first time for me. I have never been dunked in a dunking booth until now. I can add that to my list of things I have accomplished.

Memories really are precious. Memories cannot be taken away from you. Some of our memories are bad while others, I like to think most, are good. Some of the people I met I will never see this side of heaven. I will have the memory of them always.

The Apostles were eye-witnesses of the things Jesus did. They knew His humor, His love, His friendship and the way He treated others. They also knew how He died on the cruel Roman cross. After He arose from the dead they knew of His ascension into heaven. It was the memory of Him that caused them to suffer ill treatment at the hands of men who were not sympathetic to Him.

Each Lord’s Day we gather around a table to remember the death and suffering of our Lord. We share in the body and blood of Jesus as we partake of the bread and the fruit of the vine each week. We remember His death until He comes again. No, it doesn’t get old or common, but we are drawn back to the cross and all the ramifications it brought.

We may not have seen the actual crucifixion of Jesus but we do know, through the Word of God and Apostles testimony, that He came and suffered and died. I am reminded of this each week when I take part in the Lord’s Supper.

The early church came together for the purpose of "breaking bread." (Acts 20:7) The Corinthians abused this and were reminded to take it in a manner that was appropriate for what needed to be done. They were told to stop abusing the supper (1 Corinthians 11:23ff)

The memory of what Jesus did for me has to be better than any other memory that I have. Is that the way it is for you?
