Ryan Guidroz and Nick Tasker compete in UIL State Solo & Ensemble
Thursday, June 3, 2010 • Posted June 3, 2010

Ryan Guidroz and Nick Tasker traveled to UIL State Solo & Ensemble this past Saturday. Ryan played "Five against Two" on the snare, and Nick played "Syrinx" on the alto sax, both played their respective solos from memory. State Solo & Ensemble is quite a bit more challenging than Region solo & ensemble, and some of the most talented high school music students in the state are at this contest.

Ryan is the first freshman from San Saba to make it to State Solo & Ensemble, and he received very helpful comments regarding his technique and musicianship. While the judge enjoyed a very well-prepared performance from a talented freshman, Ryan received a division three (Average Rating). However, Ryan should be commended for making it to state in his freshman year. Something very few freshmen even attempt, much less accomplish.

Nick joined Ryan in being the first state soloist from San Saba in several years, and he too received great comments to better his musical ability. Nick received a division two, but was very close to a division one. This is the first time that Nick has ever attempted to memorize a class one solo to advance to state solo & ensemble. Nick is a junior and will have another chance to advance next year. Congratulations to both students for representing San Saba at Texas State Solo & Ensemble this year.
