May 24, 2010 - What a great year we have had at San Saba ISD. Each and every campus has had its own successes that can be noted and celebrated. Students are achieving and the District is moving forward in its quest to be the School of Choice in Central Texas.
Looking back on the year during this final week of school, what have we accomplished? Its hard to name all of our accomplishments, but listed below are a few: Recipient of two technology grants in the amount of $224,000 and $459,000 to provide technology upgrades, awarded ERATE funding to upgrade District technology Infrastructure in the amount $300,000, 10 students qualify for Regional Academics, FCCLA teams qualify of State and four qualify for National Competition, Skills USA students qualify for state competition, football, baseball, girls basketball, track members, power lifting, cross country, golf and tennis athletes all qualify for post district competition, regional and state competitions. As well, BCIS II students have once again taken on a project and to date have raised approximately $7800 for a mascot costume and tennis court resurfacing.
Of course, our main focus is academics and what is happening in the classroom. During this year our teachers implemented new technology to enhance instruction and a new curriculum and this was not easy. Changing mindsets and changing the way we teach is very hard. Change in itself is just difficult, and the staff has worked hard to embrace the changes we are asking them to make to improve classroom instruction for our students.
As well, we are ending the school year with the highest enrollment that we have had all year. This is not typically the trend for a small rural school district and especially for San Saba ISD. Typically, we begin with a larger enrollment and it drops off as the year goes on, but we have remained steady and gained a little throughout the school year.
We can’t forget too, the wonderful support we have had from the community, business members and the parents. Our students are very lucky to have the strong support of this community. We appreciate all the support and each and every volunteer providing time to our campuses, sports programs and District events.
Many events will take place during the summer time. The central office remains open throughout the summer as does the high school office.
