The 100-year celebration at the Bend Methodist church had a big turn out Sunday. It was reported that more than 110 people attended the affair and that some of the direct descendants of the founders of the church attended. Gage’s Bar-B-Q catered the lunch. The cake had a picture of the original church building and the present church building. The original church building was built on land donated by Mr. and Mrs. Phil B. McCoury. Mrs. McCoury was ill at the time of construction and when she died February 25, 1911 it was the first funeral held in the church.

The first wedding was held in the church August 27, 1911. The Rev. E.E. Thompson officiated at the ceremony of Ben Watson and Della Sprinkle. Arva Amelia Millican Young was the first baby baptized in the new church. The last meeting in the old wooden structure was in February 1987.

Congregational bake sales, a barbecue and a pledge drive helped to fund the present building. In addition to church members, many others donated to the fund drive, including people from Bend, San Saba, Lampasas, Kempner and Lometa.
