San Saba has winners in the annual 4-Lady Spring Pecan Classic! Sandra Baskin, Jo Ann Humphries, Betty Sue Hardy, and Olga Cantu won Second Place in the First Flight with a score of 67. First place scored a 64 and Susie Holder on that team won three of the closest to the pin awards! Anita Miles was the only other lady to win a closest to the pin award, or it would have been a clean sweep for Susie. They were a tough team from San Angelo, Texas. Later in the day, they entered the Alumni Tournament and won Second Place in that tournament. They spent their entire day in San Saba and had a ball and said they couldn’t wait to come back to San Saba and the San Saba River Golf Course.

Sandy Hartley, Becky Hardin, Shirley Hardin, and Janet Hoyt won Second Place in the Second Flight with a 73. There were two San Saba teams, (Anita Miles, Hattie Rogers, Jo Ann Snow, and Priscilla Muse) - (Dorothy Sterner, Kay Barclay, Debbie Lee, and Courtney McNeil), beat out of Third Place in a score card play off that had to go the fifth hole to declare the winner. They each shot a 74.

The Ladies were welcomed by the President, Anita Miles, and served donut holes and coffee and juice. All the participants were awarded an entry prize of a headcover, note pads from San Saba Printing, and a gift certificate from Grabbajabba fashion shop. A special thanks to these participating merchants for their generosity! Later in the day the snack bar was open with Betty Odom, Pat Ribb, and Bobbie Churchill assisting in serving ice tea, peanut butter and cheese and crackers and grapes for the players. We always appreciate how the ladies that aren’t getting to play are still participating and being a big part of our organization. Hats off to these ladies!

Betty Ann Johnson once again catered a delicious lunch of King Ranch Chicken, Green Beans, Hot Rolls, Salad, and Banana Pudding! The visiting ladies can’t brag enough on San Saba’s food and Betty Ann. She does such a great job, not only with good food but a smiling delightful attitude!

The Tournament was a great success even though it was small in number. Everybody had a fun time, which is what it’s all about!

One of the greatest joys of living in San Saba is how generous and supportive our businesses are. The City National Bank has sponsored this tournament for several years and the Ladies Golf Association is so appreciative.

And the Ladies Golf Association cannot say enough about our pro, Keith Harris and his wife, Crystal! They do everything to assist in making for a great tournament and in such a congenial professional manner. They definitely are a real asset to our golf course and our community!

The San Saba Ladies met for play day on May 13, 2010 with the Chair for May, Bobbie Churchill, calling for a practice round of playing a scramble with the two teams competing in the upcoming tournament. The team of Sandee Hartley, Becky Hardin, Janet Hoyt, and Dorothy Sterner defeated the team of Hattie Rogers, Anita Miles, and Jo Ann Snow. Betty Odom and her husband Travis came late and everyone was delighted to visit with their dear friends that moved to Hamilton, Texas, however Betty still remains a member. Betty has had health issues but still joined Hattie’s team and putted and chipped. Bobbie Churchill also putted some greens. We are hoping that these ladies are back on the links in the near future. Also Jo Anne Hardy is quickly recovering from her knee surgery, and should be back playing soon. She joined the ladies for lunch.

Golf is in full swing and the course is in such a beautiful state. It is a great place to just visit, enjoy the scenery, or play a little golf and do a little ‘swinging!’
