The Year in Armadillo Sports
Thursday, May 20, 2010 • Posted May 20, 2010

As the 2009-2010 academic year winds down, the year in Armadillo sports is worth looking back at, from a successful football season to another playoff berth for the baseball team.

The football team finished the season with a 9-3 record. The 8-2 regular was the best in 15 years. The only losses were to state semi-finalist Brady in district and a non-district tussle against 1A Div 1 champion Goldthwaite. The bi-district playoff win against Wall was the first playoff win since 1987.

In team tennis, the Dillos qualified for state where they finished in the top 5. This has become a regular occurrence for the tennis squad.

The Armadillo basketball team continued to improve over previous teams and the Lady Dillos tied for the district title with the Lady Horns of Early. Early won the tie-breaker game and the Lady Dillos lost their bi-district game to the Jim Ned Indians.

The spring sports showed a mixed bag of success. The golf team failed to qualify for regionals and the Lady golfers didn’t have enough to field a team. Nina Paredez did qualify for regional as an Individual Medalist.

Several Dillos qualified for the regional track meet, but no one finished higher than 4th in any event. The tennis squad did well at the district tournament sending 9 players to regional. Tayler Hibler, Tarah Crosby and Joanna Crosby qualified for the state tournament but lost in the quarterfinals.

The Lady Dillo softball team continues to improve as they get more experience. The Dillo baseball team won a tie-breaker over Brady to claim 3rd in district and another playoff berth. The opponent was a familiar one. For the 3rd year in a row, San Saba was eliminated from the playoffs by the Eagles of Grape Creek.

The 2010-2011 teams look to improve on the success of this year and build a winning tradition in all Armadillo sports.
