A big cloud passed over the Bend Friday night leaving 3/10 of an inch. Everyone could have used some more, but was happy with what fell. Late Saturday it looked like it might do something, but all that happened was a big clap of thunder and the clouds moved East of Bend toward Lampasas.

Last Monday Elaine McKome, from Corpus Christi, along with her sister Louise Barefoot was out visiting Lola Morris. Frank Wakeman brought his sisters Louis and Elaine out from Lampasas.

R. J. Henniger won a shredder from the Hoffpauir grand opening celebration which was held Saturday, April 24. He had no idea that he had won, but people kept asking him about what he won, so he figured that could be something that he needed to check on. When he went to San Saba indeed, he did find out that he had won a shredder. Nobody but R.J. could be in the dark for so long about winning such a nice piece of equipment.

The Bend Methodist church will be celebrating 100 years Sunday, May 23, with service at 10:00 a.m.

On our ailing list is Charlene Brister who went in last Monday and had surgery on her foot and is doing as well as can be expected. She reported it will take about three more weeks before she will be able to walk on it. Jane Clark is still mending and able to walk without a walker, but having to take it slow. Jerry Reavis was in Temple at the Scott and White Hospital for a medical procedure Monday. It was reported that last week Tommie Tinney was to have an MRI Monday afternoon, but he put it off until this Monday. Bill Price is still waiting to hear the results from the MRI that he had taken last week.

Mike and Ann McWilliams held an open house Saturday in their new home on County road 432. A large crowd attended.

The Bend Community Meeting went off as scheduled Saturday night. Not a big crowd, but good food and lots of visiting took place.

Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff was in Dallas over this last weekend. They were there to see son Donnie receive his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from University of Texas of Dallas.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Jim Hicks whose birthday is May 21, to Jade Hickey who will celebrate a birthday May 22, to Robert Price whose birthday is May 24, to Melissa Clark who will celebrate a birthday May 25, to Alison Preece, Tracy Keeney and Spring Price who will be celebrating a birthday May 26, and to Halden Tower whose birthday is May 27.
