The San Saba Garden Club met Tuesday, May 4th at the Mill Pond Clubhouse. Anna Wilson welcomed twenty clubmembers and one guest, Joanne Weik. Carol Orr led the Collect and Trish Warren led the Creed.

After the treasurers report, Anna expressed appreciation to Carol Littlefield and Jane Randolph for their leadership in the lasagne dinner fundraiser last month and to all the clubmembers for the wonderful participation in baking and serving that day. She also thanked everyone who brought plants and helped the day of the Plant Sale at Trade Days last week. Building and Grounds Chairman, Noma Fitzgerald shared our appreciation to the city employees for replacing a window this week and helping with some extra outside cleaning on the building.

She also invited clubmembers to volunteer to help with the watering around the clubhouse over the summer months. Gail Bruner discussed Mission San Saba and the club voted to give a gift and also volunteer with some refreshments for the workers. Ella Pavish won the door prize, a beautiful basket full of flowers.

Anna introduced Dean Minchillo, an LCRA representative with Water Services in Austin. He gave a very informative slide presentation on water conservation in Central Texas, suggesting different ways to consider in watering our gardens and yards. Each member received a Texas Hill Country Landscaping Folder with many useful ideas and websites for more information. He also invited us to come enjoy the Hill Country Landscaping Center in Austin and see the Texas Native plants in a garden setting. Mr. Minchillo emphasized the importance of watering slowly and deeply, always mulch to save the moisture, and try to maintain a consistent watering schedule especially with new plantings.

Sharon Hayes said our blessing and our meeting adjourned to a gorgeous table of foods decorated with johnny-jump-ups and roses, picked from our Memorial Garden that morning. Luncheon tables were accented with roses and lovely lime green placemats. Several cakes and punch were enjoyed from a dessert table. Gladiolas and orchids were located around the room. Quite festive for our last meeting of this garden club year. Our hostess for this event were Jane Randolph, Anna Wilson and Gail Bruner.
