Johnnie (Cotton) Thornton

Johnnie (Cotton) Thornton, 73, of San Saba passed away Monday, May 3, 2010, in a local care facility. Johnnie was born August 31, 1936, in San Saba, to Sebern Thornton and Alice Jackson Thornton. He married Jeannean Hall on December 20, 1963, in Brownwood, Texas.

Johnnie worked in the construction industry as a contractor. He served in the U. S. Navy and was a member of the Pecan Grove Baptist Church.

Johnnie is survived by his wife Jeannean Thornton of San Saba; two sons Terry Thornton of San Saba, Dale Thornton and his wife Tracy of Austin; one daughter Cristy Thornton of San Saba. He is also survived by two brothers Jimmy Thornton of San Angelo, Richard Thornton and his wife Leota of Austin; one sister-in-law Elyse Peavy, three grandchildren Kinley, Carley, and Jackson Thornton, and several nieces and nephews.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Edward Thornton.

Graveside service were held Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. at the San Saba Cemetery with Rev. Stuart Beckwith, officiating.

Visitation was Tuesday, May 4, 2010, from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to The San Saba County EMS.
