Funeral Services for Nelson G. (Pete) Smith, 80, of Richland Springs were held on Sunday, May 2nd, at 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church Richland Springs with Barry Fikes officiating. Burial followed in the Adams Cemetery in the Lakeview Community.

Pete passed away April 29th at Brownwood Regional Hospital from complications of PSP, Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy.

Visitation was held Saturday, May 1st from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.

He was born October 6, 1929, to Jesse J. and Ruby Moss Smith in the Hall Valley Community. He attended school in Hall and Richland Springs and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Richland Springs. He was a veteran of the Navy serving on a destroyer during the Korean Conflict.

Pete married Naomi Ruth Gober on October 15, 1952, in San Saba, Texas. They were blessed with four children, eleven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He has worked as a machinist and was a farmer, rancher, and custom harvester for thirty-five years.

He is survived by his wife Naomi; his brothers J. D. Smith and wife Melanie of Richland Springs; Gayle and Kathy Smith of Brady; devoted sister Barbara Gober of San Antonio; his sons, Nelson Jay and wife Lindy of Richland Springs; Darrell and wife Susan of Brownwood; David Todd and wife Valerie of Abilene; daughter Melinda Crawford of Brownwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren Patrick Nelson Smith, Lyle Smith, Corey Pete Crawford, Trey Crawford, Nicole Crawford, Shane Smith, Dusty Smith, Jackson Smith; step-grandsons Dana and Wyart Miller, Damon Slaughter; and great-grandchildren Jayson Smith, Leona Smith, Kaitlyn Gutierrez, Sydney Slaughter; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ogden Smith, son-in-law Jim Crawford, and brother-in-law Col. Lowman Gober.

Pallbearers were grandsons and special nephew Gary Smith.
