We are in the technology age…the uses of Twitter, Facebook, Webpages and other forms of "online" information is exploding. The ISD expects to further its uses of technology as a media tool and an instructional tool in the coming year. Earlier in the school year I talked about technology and the awarding of technology grants to our District. San Saba ISD is the recipient of two large technology grants and other federal funding that has and will upgrade all aspects of current technology. The Vision 2020 grant will provide laptops to all high school students in the coming school year. The Middle School is the recipient of the T3 grant which provides 65 student laptops. Middle and High School Staff have been receiving training on the instructional uses of this technology throughout this school year in anticipation of the deployment of the student laptops next school year. Along with these grants, the ISD used federal stimulus funds to add Smartboards, projectors, document cameras and teacher laptops at elementary school. In the coming year we can expect more use of podcasting by students and teachers, blogging to keep students up-to-date on course work, and other forms of digital content. Our friends at Central Texas Telephone are also helping to support our digital efforts by making internet access available in key locations in our city.

The District’s website is a wealth of information for parents and individuals seeking to find out about our school. Their website is organized by categories that can be accessed by group. The categories are Administration; Schools; Staff Resources; Student Resources and Parent Resources. Under each of the categories information can be found that includes school board meeting minutes and agendas, financial information, curriculum information, cafeteria menus, student tutorials, homework helper, library information, athletic schedules, highly qualified teacher information, immunization information, enrollment forms, UIL information and much, much more.

Election day is quickly approaching. Early voting for the school board election started Monday, April 26, 2010 through May 4, 2010. The election and early voting takes place at City Hall located at 303 South Clear Street. Election day is Saturday, May 8, 2010.
