The weather man was right on target this past week about the rain coming Thursday and Friday. The reports of one-half inch falling around the Bend, but more in other parts of the county. It must have rained somewhere because the Colorado river was out of its banks this weekend. Very little trash came down the river, which was a good thing for some. The fishing should pick up after the rise and the water starts to clear.

The Broyles reunion was held Saturday at Cherokee. The family members of Johanson Ursala Bryollie Broyles gathered at the school cafeteria and dined on fish cooked by Jackie Brister and his crew. Mebbie Eckhoff reported that there was a large group there. Attending from the Bend area was Jolene Lively, Jerry and Charlene Reavis, Leon and Mebbie Eckhoff.

The Bend Community meeting went off as scheduled Saturday, but very few attending. The president Jim Hicks along with OraBeth attended a big birthday celebration for Alton Garner who was celebrating his 100th birthday.

There are always stories about fish, but just learned a new story that seemed worth talking about. It seems that wild hogs are everyone’s problem and seems to be getting worse each passing day. Jim Hicks has been trapping hogs for a very long time and has some interesting stories to tell. This one is hard to believe, but know that it must have happened. It seems a deer feeder was up on some property and some wild hogs came in ate all the corn and then preceded to knock the feeder over and started to bite the feeder leaving their teeth marks in the metal. Jim can tell you some really interesting stories about the wild hogs. Just this past week he was out looking at some tracks near 580 when a big hog that had been hit by a car came up out of the weeds headed straight for him. The only thing that saved him from being seriously injured was the fact that the hogs back legs wouldn’t work, but according to Jim the front legs were working well enough for the hog to come after him. Jim made a hasty retreat to his pickup, retrieved his pistol and put the hog down.

Alan Dale Brown passed away Saturday morning. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Tracy, Leigh Keeney and two sons of Lake View attended a wedding at Fredericksburg and on their way home they stopped by Sunday to eat lunch at the home of William and Jane Clark.

Jane Clark reported that Bobby Clark’s mother-in-law Mimmie passed away Sunday in Round Rock. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Happy birthday goes out to Jolene Lively who will be celebrating a birthday April 23, and to Thaddous Scroggins who will celebrate a birthday April 25, and to Walter Brister who will celebrate a birthday April 26, and to Dan Harrington who will celebrate a birthday April 29.
