Eric Davila and Heath Lackey, 6th graders in San Saba Middle School, traveled to Abilene Saturday, April 10, to participate in the Texas Special Olympics sponsored by Area 14.

Abilene Christian University’s Elmer Gray Field was crowded with over 300 participants, sponsors, families, and many other supporters of the participants.

Heath and Eric were accompanied by Ms. Dixie Hewitt and Ms. Melanie Mathis, their teachers; along with Coach Scott Mathis, Ms. Jackie Dyer, Mark Dyer and Jeri Dyer. The Dyers volunteered in assisting with some of the events. Also attending were the students’ families.

Eric participated in the 50 M. Dash and the Ball Throw for Distance. In these competitions, he garnered a "gold" medal in each. Heath won a "bronze" medal for Ball Throw for Distance. Both of these students have been practicing for many weeks for this competition. Their hard work paid off for them and their school.
