A Tale of Two Games - On Tuesday, April 6, the San Saba JV baseball team went over to Bangs for a district game. The Armadillos scored first with 3 runs being knocked in by Russell Lowe and Josh Wright. Bangs answered right back, capitalizing on a couple of errors to even the game, 3 – 3. It was a back and forth game, if we scored, Bangs would come right back. If they scored, we would come right back. Ryan Guidroz was our pitcher of record for that day. He did a great job, the defense committed three costly errors in four innings of play. Only three runs were earned, however the game ended 6 – 8 in favor of the Bangs Dragons. If we make the fielding plays that we are supposed to make, and not let the defensive innings painfully continue on, then we would have won the game on this day.

On Friday, April 9, we travelled to Brady to take on the Bulldogs. The Armadillos batted in the first inning and went all the way around the order. With walks by Ryan Guidroz, JT Mathis, Wil Sloan, Russell Lowe, and Josh Wright, the hits by Tanner Hawkins, BJ Harbour, and Ryan Guidroz plated four runs in the first inning for the Armadillos. Our pitching and defense was fairly good and the Bulldogs scored one in the bottom half. Our second inning was more of the same. Hits by Tanner Hawkins, Josh Wright, and BJ Harbour, with walks by Wil Sloan and Sean Argote had another rally going. JT Holland batted with the bases loaded and had a 3 RBI Triple. Defensively the Armadillos were making the plays that needed to be made. A few more runs scored for Brady, but nothing threatened the big lead that had built up. JT Mathis pitched well for the Armadillos. Only three of the five runs were earned, he only walked two and struck out several. His pitching record for the year is 4-2 and 3-1 in district games. Two times the Armadillos picked off a Bulldog baserunner at third base with a pitcher cut-off play. This was big in stopping rallies, the second one ended the game. The final score was San Saba 15, Brady 5. Outstanding patience and hitting overcame the defensive mistakes and was enough for the Dillos to win on this day.

The results of these two games makes our overall record 8-5-1 and our district record 4-3. Our next games will be in Goldthwaite (non-district) on Saturday, April 17, after the varsity game which starts at 12:30, and on Tuesday, April 20, against the Comanche Indians (district) here at Dillo Diamond at 4:30.
