Thursday, April 15, 2010 • Posted April 15, 2010

The San Saba Pierian Study Club met April 8, 2010 in the home of Martha Leigh Whitten for afternoon tea. Co-hostesses were Yearbook Committee members Kathleen Hawkins, Millie Burnham, Sandy Kuykendall, Joycelyn McRorey, Dorothy Miller and Jane Randolph.

Ms. Virginia Walker, tea consultant and owner of Special-Tea Occasions at 208 West Oak Street, Buchanan Dam, Texas, presented the program Tea Tasting. The club members were feted with specialty finger sandwiches and an assortment of teas were served and their benefits explained. Ms. Walker spoke on how afternoon tea is experiencing a growing trend of popularity and that it reminds us of a time of civility and offers an air of charm that is irresistible.

"Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford is credited with the first tea party as an afternoon snack to stave off hunger until the late dinner hour," said Ms. Walker. "Over the years the social aspects of afternoon tea have evolved to be the pleasant repast we enjoy today," she continued.
