The San Saba Tennis Team won consolation at the State Team Tennis Tournament held on March 12-13. San Saba lost in the 1st round to Krum 11 to 8, then bounced back to win their next three matches by defeating Comfort 17 to 1, Franklin 15 to 4 and Industrial 14 to 5. The sixteen teams that were at the state tournament were Mason, East Bernard, Franklin, Wink, Shallowater, Comfort, Krum, San Saba, Wall, Industrial, Floydada, Knippa, Florence, White Oak, Kirbyville, and Reagan County. The top four teams were 1st Mason, 2nd Reagon County, 3rd Wall, and 4th Krum.

The first round match against Krum was a very close match with the Dillos falling to Krum 11 to 8. I felt like we should have defeated Krum. We lost four matches that we had a chance to win but just didn’t put the match away. We dug ourselves in a hole falling behind 5 to 2 after the double matches. But our kids fought back and tied the score 7 to 7 before losing 3 of the next 4 matches. I was very proud of our players for the way they came back and won consolation. They were disappointed in not defeating Krum as we felt we could finish in the top 4 at state this year. After the match with Krum they set a goal to win the next 3 matches and they did by defeating Comfort, Franklin and Industrial. Playing in the state tournament were Tayler Hibler, Nicole Sears, Tarah Crosby, Lauren Dawson, Brittany Moreno, Regan Hartranft, Joannah Crosby, Kelli Cox, Heather Wilcox, Vanessa Aguirre, Chase Key, Diego Gonzalez, Kobe Cisneroz, Reid Casco, Marshall McIntosh, Houston Casco, Josh Raiford, Jose Vega, B.J. Harbour, and Kolton Haverland. Diego Gonzalez had a very good tournament winning all of his eight matches.

The Armadillos will now concentrate on individual tennis as the district tournament is on April 5-6. San Saba will play in the Llano Tournament this week on March 18 and 19th.
