Susie Nettleship, Membership Chair, presented Linda Sloan for membership and she was voted into the Study Club unanimously. She will be placed on the waiting list. Linda has been a guest several times this year with her sister, Patty Shaw, and with her generous spirit she contributed wonderful tasty lemon squares to complement the other refreshments. She has helped in many ways at several functions this past year. She has been much more than just a guest.

Patty Shaw, representing the Committee "Keep San Saba Beautiful", announced that April 10, 2010 will be the date of the Great American Cleanup and passed out invitations for participation. It will begin at 8:00 AM and last until noon. There will be a plant sale and bake sale in conjunction with the clean up event. Patty encouraged all members to volunteer in any way that they could.
Joycelyn McRorey then introduced Elizabeth Chambers, the director of the San Saba One Act Play. Elizabeth is best known to us as the daughter of our own Dr. Ward Locklear of Brownwood, Texas. Ward Locklear is the son of our ‘once upon a time’ beloved teacher and principal of San Saba High School, Jock Locklear. Elizabeth graduated from Brownwood High School in 1985 and received her BA in English from Tarleton along with her teacher certification. This is Elizabeth’s 16th year at San Saba High and the 10th year to direct the play. Elizabeth expressed special thanks for this year’s production to Brian Sours, Lauren Shero, Rebecca Trump, and Alesha Rogers. Elizabeth and her husband Steve have three children and her son, Connor, and step-daughter, Paige, both sophomores this year, are in the One Act Play and in her honors English Class. So, she has extra blessings and challenges, as she expressed her opinion that children are God’s greatest gift!
The play "Moon Over Buffalo" is a comedy bordering on farce, which made it very difficult. Elizabeth expressed her appreciation of how hard the students have worked and their dedication. The Cast members were: Tyler Lackey, Courtney Pryor, Laken Miller, Morgan Mixon, Jenna Sloan, Connor Arrington, Paige Chambers, and Jose Vega. The Crew members were: Natasha Hernandez, Nick Tasker, Audrey Pierce, Corey Rixse, Reid Casco, Nina Paredez, Manuel Landeros, Kristen Reynolds, and Abby Dellis. The play was delightful and the members enjoyed it and the fellowship with the students at the conclusion of the production. Teenagers are refreshing and enjoyable!
The ladies and the students enjoyed an array of sandwiches and chips, cookies and soft drinks following the play. The table was decorated with beautiful spring flowers and the entire afternoon was a pleasure!
The April meeting will be April 8, 2010, a "Tea Tasting" presented by Virginia Walker at the home of Martha Leigh Whitten with the Yearbook Committee: Kathleen Hawkins, Millie Burnham, Sandy Kuykendall, Joycelyn McRorey, Dorothy Miller, and Jane Randolph, acting as co-hostesses You don’t want to miss this fun meeting!
