Janie said that she and John met in Baytown, Texas at church.

When asked what their secret to a long, happy marriage is, she said, "communication." They have four wonderful children together: Melba, Jean, Sherri and Sue. She said the highlight of their marriage, of course, was having their children and that even when John was away, if it was an anniversary or special time, he always bought her something. Janie said the thing that she appreciates most about their relationship is the love and companionship that they share. They have been together since 1939.
