San Saba High School Tennis Team wins Regional this past weekend in Leander. They will compete in the 2A State Team Tennis Tournament March 12th & 13th in Round Rock and Leander.

The San Saba Tennis Team won the Region V 2A & Under Team Tennis Tournament. The regional tournament was held in Leander on March 5-6. The Armadillos qualified for the State Team Tennis Tournament on March 12-13. This will be the 14

trip since team tennis started in 1983 for the Dillos.

In the Quarterfinals of the regional tournament the Armadillos defeated Thorndale 18 to 1. In the semifinals the Dillos defeated Thrall 17 to 2. In the finals San Saba took on a strong Florence team and the Armadillos came out playing some of their best tennis and defeated Florence 14 to 5. Both San Saba and Florence will represent region 5 at the state tournament. There will be 16 teams at the tournament on March 12-13 trying to win the state championship. The tournament will be played at 8 sites in the Round Rock, Georgetown, Leander, and Cedar Park area. Each team will be playing 4 matches, the times are 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. We will not know who we play or where until Thursday night at the coaches meeting. I am very proud of the way our kids played. They have really been working hard to win regionals. Winning regionals has been one of our goals this year. Not only am I proud of the way the kids played, I am more proud of the way our players conducted themselves on and off the court. I had several people comment to me the sportsmanship our kids displayed and on how well they acted in restaurants. Harbour, Jose Vega, and Kolton Haverland.
