March 1, 2010 - The San Saba Independent School District is celebrating Texas Public Schools Week (TPSW) March 8-12. While some school districts will celebrate Texas Public Schools Week during the first week of March, SSISD elected to celebrate TPSW during the second week of March due to TAKS testing throughout the District.

On Monday, March 8th, 2010 SSISD schools will host Open Houses to invite parents and other community members into the schools. Teachers, students and administrators will all be on hand to visit with parents and community members during this Open House. The campuses will use the following schedule to allow visitors to attend multiple campus events: San Saba Elementary School – 5:00 – 6:00 pm; San Saba Middle School 5:30 – 6:30 pm; San Saba High School 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Also, during this week, San Saba High School will host the local Rotary Club in the cafeteria and provide a meeting spot for this group. The local Rotarian’s annually visit the campus during public school week and host their weekly meeting on the campus. This is all part of the Club’s ongoing support of Texas public schools. The Club provides scholarships to the county schools, dictionaries to elementary students and hosts a Rotary Student Academic Banquet each year for the students who excel in their academic efforts.

Texas Public School Week is a time dedicated to recognize the students and all public school staff members throughout the state of Texas. Educating children has vastly changed over the last 15 years. The rigorous requirements for students and daily instruction for teachers has definitely changed all aspects of public education. The ISD at this time, as well would like to thank all those individuals in the community who regularly support and volunteer at our schools. We are fortunate to see volunteers working at books fairs, sports events, tutoring students and regularly providing assistance at the various events sponsored by the ISD. Thank you community and community volunteers for your support of our schools! I hope you will take the time to come by and tour the schools and visit with teachers and staff on Monday night or at any time you have a question, concern or just want to volunteer your time. For more information about Open House night and activities taking place during Texas Public Schools Week, parents should contact their child’s school.

Spring break is just around the corner! Parents, please make note that beginning March 15 and continuing through March 19, SSISD schools will be closed for spring break. Campuses will resume their regular daily schedules on Monday, March 22. As well, there is no shortage of events to attend at the SSISD campuses! We are in the midst of spring sports and spring Academic UIL preparation. Please plan to attend the UIL One-Act Play public performance on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The students will compete on Saturday, March 27, 2010. These students work very long hours to prepare for this competition and the public performance is always a treat for our community. As well, our athletes need your support at their events – we hope you will visit the fields in Mill Pond Park for home games and other sports events hosted in San Saba.
