The San Saba Tennis Team divided up into two groups last week with one group playing in the Fredericksburg Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 18 and the second group playing in the Copperas Cove Tournament on Friday, Feb. 19.

Participating in the Fredericksburg Tournament were Jonathan Ramirez, Luke Cox, B.J. Harbour, Kolton Haverland, Diego Lara, Jarred Long, Josh Wright, Chase Pierce, Reid Casco, Heather Wilcox, Lauren Dawson, Kelli Cox and Joannah Crosby. Lauren Dawson led the Armadillos by winning the A Division singles title. Lauren won all four of her matches and in the finals she defeated Nicole Rice of Dripping Springs 8 to 5. Teams playing in the tournament were Dripping Springs, Faith Academy, Fredericksburg, Medina, San Saba, Boerne, Hondo, Kerrville Tivy, Menard, Uvalde, Bandera, Ingram, Floresville, Mason, Centerpoint, and Llano.

Participating in the Copperas Cove Tournament were Marshall McIntosh, Diego Gonzalez, Kobe Cisneroz, Houston Casco, Josh Raiford, Jose Vega, Tayler Hibler, and Regan Hartranft. Tayler Hibler led the way for San Saba by coming in fourth place in A Division girls singles, and Marshall McIntosh won consolation in A Boys singles. Teams playing in the tournament were Copperas Cove, Pflugerville, Killeen Ellison, Harker Heights, Pflugerville Hendrickson, Burnet, Austin Lanier, Lampasas, Killeen Shoemaker, Temple, Belton, San Saba, Marble Falls, Llano, Hutto, Brownwood, Round Rock McNeil, and Round Rock Connally.

This week the Armadillos will play three team matches. On Friday, Feb. 26, they will play Llano in Llano at 3:45. On Saturday, Feb. 27, they will play Bellville at 8:00 a.m. and then at 2:00 p.m. the Dillos will play Waco Robinson. The Saturday matches will be played at Leander High School. The team is working hard to get ready for the Regional 2A Team Tennis Tournament which will be on March 5-6 in Leander. The Armadillos will be trying to qualify for their 14th straight appearance at the State Team Tennis Tournament, to be held on March 12-13 in the Round Rock area.
