Our Awesome God

While reading through the Bible I was intrigued by the awesome power of God. First, His creation was awesome! To think that He was able to speak and things took shape is amazing!

But then in Exodus we read of His power as the ten plagues were cast upon the Egyptians. The plagues were: water turning to blood, frogs, gnats, flies, animals are diseased and die, boils on man and animals, hail, locusts, darkness and finally death. Have you ever thought what it would have been like to be an Egyptian?

Take for instance, the frogs. Frogs were everywhere. Could you imagine trying to walk and frogs jumping everywhere? How about when you get a pan out to cook with and it is full of frogs? Or, when you went to bed, turned the covers down, there were frogs under the covers and pillows. Would you like that? I know for me it would get old very fast.

Years ago in Georgia, I baptized a woman in a pond who was scared of frogs. Fortunately, we were able to quickly get her in and under the water (Col. 2:12; Rom. 6:4) and out without an incident. Are you afraid of frogs?

Another plague was the darkness. We know what it’s like when it is dark outside. The clouds have hidden the moon and stars. It is totally, completely dark. But have you ever been able to "feel" the darkness? That’s the way it was for the Egyptians. It was so dark that no one got up for three days. And the amazing part of this is that the Israelites had light in their houses. It did not affect them!

What an awesome God we have! What a powerful God we have. God has asked us to listen to His word and obey His teachings. When we do, He will bless us. And if we choose not to, He will allow us to go to the place set aside for Satan and his followers.

Perhaps the greatest and most awesome thing our God did was to take on a human form and live among us, and then He died to save us. His life on this earth was perfect. He has shown us the way to live and we are to follow in His steps. I can’t be perfect, no man can. But I can be obedient and He will save my soul.

Today many people have chosen to follow a way that is contrary to our Lord’s teaching. Jesus warned of this in Matthew 7:13, 14 when He described there are two ways to travel. One way leads to eternal life. The other way leads to destruction. Everyone is on one of these paths. Which is it for you?

An awesome God stands ready to forgive when you are ready to repent. Don’t wait too long, however, or you will miss the eternal life He has promised.

There is a friend we can turn to that will give us good advice for going forward. It may be a person you know, but even then they can only do so much. The friend we can turn to is God. He gives the best advice for all of our lives. He tells us what we need to do to get along with Him, with each other, and how to one day reach the eternal reward. If we don’t turn to Him in prayer and read His advice (the Bible), we will never succeed.

So, to whom do you turn?
