Gwen Shannon, 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in Brownwood Regional Medical Center. Gwen was born to John Oliver and Mary Mullins Oliver on July 14, 1924. She married Denzil Earl Shannon on May 8, 1940, in Menard, Texas.

Gwen is survived by two sons, Roy Shannon and his wife Winnie of Richland Springs and Troy Shannon and his wife Paula of Richland Springs; four daughters, Sierra Mayfield of San Saba; Erline Daniels of Austin; Mary Ann Liepelt and her husband Walter of Brownwood; and Vicki Oubre and her husband Michael of Austin; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter, Gina Mayfield, and one grandson, Wade Shannon.

Services were held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the Resthaven Cemetery, in Menard, Texas, with Rev. John Pennington officiating.

The family received friends at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, 2010.

Interment followed at Resthaven Cemetery in Menard, Texas.

The family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetic Association.
