Leonard D. (Lynn) McDonald, 91, of Galena Park, passed away on January 26, 2010. He was born August 4, 1918, in Thrall, Texas, to Samuel B. and Cora E. (Smith) McDonald. The 6

After joining the U.S. Army in July of 1941, he served for four years in five major campaigns in the European Theater of World War II, including battles in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and Ardennes (the Battle of the Bulge). He attained the rank of Sergeant in Reconnaissance Company, 629

After the war, he moved to the Houston area to work for Armco. He soon met Beatrice Sivil, and they were married on Sept. 3, 1949. They made their home in Galena Park, where they celebrated their 60

He is survived by his wife Beatrice of Galena Park; son Gary McDonald and his wife Pamela of Friendswood, Texas; daughter Terry Danhof and her husband Gary of Savannah, Georgia; grandson Michael McDonald and his wife Rebecca; grandson Daniel McDonald; granddaughters Andrea and Chrissy Danhof; and one great-grandson, Jason. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Offenbecker of Estey, Michigan, and 13 nieces and nephews.

By the time of his honorable discharge in September 1945, he had been awarded the E.A.M.E. Ribbon with five bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and the American Defense Ribbon. th wedding anniversary last September. Lynn retired from Ethyl Corporation after 30 years there. He was a member of the Galena Park First Baptist Church.
