The junior high basketball teams traveled to Cherokee on Monday and will play in the junior high district tournament at Eden on February 4 and 6. The district tournament will be the end of the junior high basketball season. Track practice begins the following week.

Boys’ basketball coach Shawn Rogers and the varsity boys’ basketball team are leading the district race with a 12-1 start (7-0 in district). The boys remain in sole possession of first place in the district race after a thrilling triple overtime victory over the Paint Rock Indians last Friday.

Girls’ basketball coaches Pam Starr and Tony Dodson and the Lady Coyotes are 13-12 (3-6 in district). The varsity teams plat at Veribest this Tuesday and will host Lohn at Coyote gym this Friday at 6:30 p.m. Come out and support our young athletes in UIL competition. The University Interscholastic League announced the 2010-2012 Official Football District Alignments today. Richland Springs is in District 15 of Conference 1A 6-Man Division 2. Other teams in our football district include Brookesmith, Cherokee, Lohn and Mullin. The UIL also announced the 2010 Official Basketball District Alignment. Richland Springs is in District 28 of Conference 1A Division 2. Other teams in our basketball district include Cherokee, Eden, Lohn, Lometa, Menard, and Rochelle. Richland Springs is expected to experience decreasing enrollment in future years. This year’s 2011 senior class will graduate 17 seniors and next year’s freshman class currently has 11 students. The following year we project 14 graduating seniors with only 4 students entering in the freshman class. At this time, we predict these trends will continue for at least four years unless new students enter the district. Future enrollment trends are the reason Richland Springs has moved from Division 1 to Division 2.

The Texas Department of State Health Services free H1N1 Clinic vaccinated 33 persons from the school and community. Our health is something we take for granted until we become ill. As service to others, Richland Springs will sponsor a blood drive on campus on Friday, February 5 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Students will be contacting potential donors for the upcoming blood drive. Contact any student or call the school if you want to donate the ‘gift of life’.

We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It looks to be a great year at Richland Springs.

Community involvement is the key to our success!
