Elm Grove Echoes

We have been having more winter weather along with 4.7 inches of rain out at Elm Grove. Tuesday is Groundhog Day. I am pretty sure we are in for at least six more weeks of winter weather whether that old groundhog sees his shadow or not. Spring officially arrives on March 20th. I checked the calendar ahead of time and noticed that Easter is earlier than usual this year, falling on the first Sunday in April. Remember the snow on Easter Sunday a few years ago? Anything can happen when it comes to Texas weather!

We are into another new month. The Busy Bee quilters will meet on Tuesday, the 9th. The 42 tournament will be February at Shiloh. The community meeting will be February 20th and we will have a visiting speaker from Central Texas Telephone. The business meeting will be at 7:30 PM. After the meeting, if time allows, and anyone is interested, games of 42, etc. will be played. Kitty Cummings and Bonnie Evans will be the hostesses. Come and join us.

The Elm Grove VFD members are working on enlarging their building to make room for their equipment which they received from the latest grant. Wayne Powell donated the land for the expansion.

This is Super Bowl Sunday. Since the Cowboys are out of it, I really don’t care who wins, but I will watch the game. My grandson, Kelton, is pulling for the Colts so I may have to go along with him.

The Richland Springs boys basketball team is really doing well. They have only lost one game all year. They are 11-1 overall and 6-0 in district. That is really impressive since they got a late start on the season due to football. Last Friday night, they pulled out a close one against Paint Rock. After going into triple overtime, we won 69-71. That was an exciting game! The girls lost their game Friday night but I hear they are having a fairly good season. Maybe we can get to a game or two before it is all over. It has just been too cold to get out at night for me.

G.H. Suber from Odessa was our guest for the weekend. He and Michael took in the bird auction at Lampasas. We enjoyed his visit.

If all goes as planned, next weekend we will have Bethany, all three Tucker grandkids, and four dogs visiting. Hopefully we will be able to write a column!
