Thursday, January 21, 2010 • Posted January 21, 2010

Since the first of the year we have seen a very high number of felony arrests for methamphetamine here in San Saba County. Sheriff Brown stated that he believes that with the addition of more aggressive criminal patrol and better interagency cooperation, we will be seeing a lot more of these type arrests to come. Sheriff Brown further stated that between the alcohol and the methamphetamine problems, it is taxing law enforcement to the max. We are seeing our jail numbers climb as well as our court dockets getting larger and larger. Brown further stated that he believes that the problem will be getting a lot worse before it gets better. We must all work together as a community in order to handle this ever changing and growing problem.

Here is a list of the felony drug arrests made in San Saba County since the first of January. Carrie Lee Self was arrested by Trooper Mark Owens for possession of a controlled substance <1 gram. Christopher Lee Moreno was arrested by Sheriff Brown and Chief Riggs for possession of a controlled substance >1 gram, but <4 with intent to deliver. Julie Lynn Derrick Gilger and Wade Lewis Ellis were arrested by the Sheriffs Office for possession of a controlled substance >1 gram but <4 grams with intent to deliver. Carlos James Jr. Anderson and Brian Brady Taylor were arrested by Sheriff Brown and Ranger Boyd for possession of a controlled substance <1 gram. Justin Salinas was arrested by Sheriff Brown and Deputy Jacobs for possession of a controlled substance >4 grams but <200 grams in a drug free zone with intent to deliver. Holly Ann Billock and James Robert Younggreen were arrested for possession of a controlled substance >1 gram but >4 grams with intent to deliver by Sheriff Brown, Deputy Jacobs, and San Saba PD Officers Shaw, Maldonado and McGehee. The suspects listed above are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Sheriff Brown stated that the substance in each of the above arrests was crystal methamphetamine. Sheriff Brown further stated that there were additional arrests for other narcotics charges having to do with marijuana, but that methamphetamine is the drug for choice here in San Saba and in all of Central Texas. Next to alcohol it is the second biggest problem we face in law enforcement.
