Thursday, January 14, 2010 • Posted January 14, 2010

The San Saba area is well represented on the 2009-2010 Wrangler All Star Rodeo teams. First the Wrangler junior high school rodeo program selected San Saba's McKenna Maxcey to the corporate sponsored team (San Saba News and Star-December 31, 2009). Now Troy High School senior Brittany Ellis has been selected to the high school team for 2009-2010. Both cowgirls compete in Region X of the T.H.S.R.A. Ellis is a regular at the San Saba, Lometa and Elm Grove youth rodeos each year. Her San Saba family includes grandparents Bob & Gwen Ellis and Frances Hibler as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was also named to the 2009-2009 National Wrangler High School All-Star Rodeo Team.

Ellis is a two-time High School National Finals Rodeo qualifier and in 2009 went to the Texas High School Finals in pole-bending, barrel racing and goat tying. She made the short-go championship round in both pole-bending and barrel racing and ended up finishing 6th in Texas in pole-bending, 3rd in barrel racing and 6th in the Texas All-Around Cowgirl standings for 2009.

McKenna Maxcey will be introduced with the entire Wrangler junior high school all star team at the Wrangler Texas Junior High School Finals Rodeo in Gonzales the last week of May. At the halfway mark of the junior high school rodeo season Maxcey is in 2nd place in goat tying, 5th place in breakaway roping, 6th place in pole-bending, 12th place in barrel racing and 4th place in the all-around cowgirl standings in Region X junior high division.

Brittany Ellis will be introduced with the Wrangler high school all star team at the Texas High School Finals Rodeo in Abilene in June. With four performances remaining on the high school schedule Brittany Ellis is in 1st place in barrel racing, 2nd place in pole-bending, 3rd place in goat tying, 3rd place in girls' cutting, and leads the all-around cowgirl standings in Region X.
