The weather man was right on last week when they reported that the weather was going to be freezing, because it was that and then some. There was a thin layer of ice on the river, even on Monday ice was seen but after the sun hit it was gone. The few Mallard ducks that have been seen on the river this past week were the only thing that didn’t mind the cold weather and ice.

Emerson and Gladys Brister of Thrall were in at the Brister home place. Jane Clark was there to visit and eat with the family and play games.

Tuesday Judy Brister, Gladys Brister, LaNell Daniels, Jane Clark and OraBeth Hicks went to Killeen and ate and then attended the movie "Complicated."

Jolene Lively is in Scott and White after suffering a fall at her home last Wednesday. She has a broken hip and arm. Several have called and she has reported that she is doing as well as can be expected at this time. She needs to be put on your prayer list.

This past weekend Elsa Dean and son Kenneth Shirley was in Thrall picking up some wood in the new trailer that Kenneth had purchased in Dallas. They picked up more wood in Lampasas and continued on to Bend where they had supper in the home of William and Jane Clark. Other members of the family who attended were Jamie, Andrew and A.J. Houdyshell, Doug, Kristi, Jaylee and Jordan Messer of Lampasas. Elsa Dean reported that she made it back home to New Mexico late Sunday night after dropping off Kenneth in Claude, Texas.

Visitors in the home of Rufus and Tommye Cobern were grandchildren Oscar, Lorie Williams and daughter Christi, grandson Kort Marley and his wife Morgan of Huffman over the weekend.

Several kids from the Bend were in the annual livestock show which was held this past week in Lampasas. John Brooks showed pigs and Allison Hendrix showed a boar goat. It was reported that they placed, but wasn’t sure of

what, so will report on that next week.

Sunday afternoon Toni Mayben, Jane Clark and grandson Andrew Houdyshell were in Temple at the VA Nursing home to visit J.R. Collins. He and his family should be kept in your prayers.

A baby shower was held Sunday afternoon at the Bend Methodist Church for Theresa Hoffman and her daughter. Roddy and Sandra Collins are the proud

grandparents.

The Bend Community meeting will take place Saturday, January 16, at 6:30 p.m. and everyone is invited to come and enjoy the chili or stew that will be the meal. You are asked to bring chili or stew and/or a dessert.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Haley Price who will celebrate a birthday January 15, to Devin Lucas and Deidra Nixon who will celebrate a birthday January 16, Valerie Price who will celebrate a birthday January 18, to

Mebbie Eckhoff and Debbie January who will celebrate their birthday January19, to Alton Pope who will celebrate a birthday January 20.

Congratulations go out to Jimmy and Sylvia Stinnett who will celebrate an anniversary January 20.
