Everyone out at the Bend made it through to the New Year celebrations without any mishaps. Some displays of fireworks could be seen from different locations on both sides of the river.

The global warming hasn’t hit here as of yet it seems. The weather forecast for this week is cold and colder.

Lola Morris reported that she had visitors December 31. Some of her relatives came to San Saba to sell their pecans and paid her a visit. They were Randy and Riley Barnett, Billy and Anna Brown from Coleman; Arnett Hopper and son Monty from Abilene. Monty reported that he is attending school to learn about the wind turbines that are going in all over West Texas.

Bobby Clark of Round Rock and his son Jesse of New Mexico were in last week and got in some hunting. It was reported that Jesse got an eight point buck. Kit Clark was ill and stayed in Round Rock.

Other members of the Clark family who came in for New Years were Boyd, Melissa and their two boys Eli and Silas of Lubbock; Doug, Kristi Messer and children Jordan and Jaylee of Lampasas; and Jamie, A.J. and Andrew Houdyshell. The children had their own fireworks display and then the adults had their fireworks.

Sorry to learn that Pennye Pierce has come down with a case of the shingles. Not a good thing to start the new year off with.

There is a local yokel whose name will not appear in print—reported that he has been baling hay for forty years and in all kinds of weather, but this was the first year that he has ever baled hay in snow.

Saturday Jane Clark and Lola Morris along with other residents of Bend gathered at the Lometa Garden Club to celebrate the birthday of Wilma Brister who is 90.

Sunday a hot game of dominoes was played at the Lampasas Nursing home by Bob Hanson of Round Rock and his partner Bill Price who skunked Elo Henniger and Jo Price on the two games that were played. Elo and Jo vowed to do better next time.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Bobbie Johnson who will celebrate a birthday January 8, to Sandy Gary whose birthday is January 10, to Jaylee Messer, Curtis Lemons and Phillip Dowdy who will celebrate their birthday January 11, to Kristen Preece who will celebrate a birthday January 13 and a special happy birthday goes out to Emma Johnson who will celebrate her birthday January 14.
