Take a Hand – Take a Stand! The San Saba High School Family Consumer Science Department and FCCLA Chapter will be presenting a special program on Wednesday, December 9, 2009.

This program is certainly special because it is student driven, organized and prepared. Certainly, sponsor Alesha Rogers is to be commended for her guidance during the project, but part of the purpose of the project is to test and challenge the students to pull together all aspects and requirements of staging an event. This program is the result of students, Tyler Lackey, Laken Miller and Pete Torres entering the STAR Events competition for Mrs. Rogers.

STAR Events – Students Taking Action with Recognition are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievements in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative teams working to accomplish specific goals, and individualized members working alone to accomplish specific goals or team and individual performance measured by an established set of criteria. SSHS will be host to approximately 200 students from the surrounding high schools as they participate in a program that highlights actions taken to stop all types of abuse. Congratulations students and Mrs. Rogers for your hard work!

San Saba ISD has experienced great success in the STAR Events competition sending teams to the National Competition many times. Keep a look out for these three students and the other 20 plus students Mrs. Rogers will be sending to competition in the spring of 2010.

Please make preparations for the Christmas Break. The ISD will close for Christmas Break at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, December 18th and students will not return until Tuesday, January 5th. Teachers will return to work on January 4th for in-service.
