Salvation Army Supports San Saba County
Thursday, December 10, 2009 • Posted December 10, 2009

San Saba County: The Salvation Army will again be working this Christmas season to raise money in order to meet the needs of hurting people in San Saba County. The red kettles will be out in larger towns and cities across the nation, but here in San Saba County, they need your help too.

The Salvation Army is so closely associated with the Christmas season; many people don't know that their work is a year round commitment. In more than 115 countries, in all 50 states and all across the State of Texas, The Salvation Army continues its mission of service to people in need.

Even in the smaller towns The Salvation Army has a presence. As more than 250 small and/or rural towns in Texas, in San Saba County there is a Salvation Army Service Unit run by local volunteers with the assistance of a Salvation Army regional representative. These volunteers work within the community to offer services such as emergency disaster relief and limited assistance with rent, prescriptions, utilities and travel expenses. The service unit is able to refer people to the larger programs of the Salvation Army in cities across the state, such as drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers or emergency shelter.

The San Saba County service unit Treasurer is Glenda McGehee, Chairman is Deborah Cummins and Member is Billie Jeanne Amthor. If you would like to make a donation, it can be sent to: City National Bank, PO Box 98, San Saba, Texas 76877. Those preferring to make a donation by credit card can call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or www.salvationarmytexas.org.

This year we have helped approximately 55 families in San Saba County. We would like to say "Thank you" for your donations.

For more information on The Salvation Army or the local service unit call or contact: Caren Friend, Region 3 Representative 325-200-9586 or by email at: Carenfriend@uss.salvationarmy.org.
