Lady Dillo Report
Thursday, December 3, 2009 • Posted December 3, 2009

I hope that everyone had a safe and prosperous Thanksgiving. The Lady Dillos really needed the break and hopefully we’re recharged and ready to go. After the Harper game, the Lady Dillos had played six games in six days and the wear and tear from our tourney and a game

with Menard was starting to show.

Against Menard we pounced on them early and took an 18-8 lead after the first quarter. We had a good second quarter as well and

took a commanding 31-13 lead into halftime.

We were able to rest most of our starters and let some of our young guys get some valuable Varsity minutes. There will come a time during district where some of our valuable reserves will need to contribute and games such as Menard allows these girls to get Varsity minutes which will hopefully pay off down the stretch.

We had a good third quarter as well as we scored eighteen points during this stanza. Haylee Oliver and Nessa Vasquez lead us in scoring with 11 apiece followed by Ashley Pulatie and Nicole Sears with 7, Johna Reavis and Karlee Cromer each tossed in 6 as well. The final score ended up 63-33.

The next day we traveled to Harper to face the Lady Horns. I saw Harper during our tournament and they were a very scrappy and competitive team. They don’t have a great deal of size but they’re quick and play with a great deal of heart and desire. I knew if we didn’t go over there in the right frame of mind that we could face defeat. We actually had a pretty decent first quarter but after that we looked "dead legged" and a bit lethargic at times. WE were up 16-9 at the end of the first quarter and took a 22-15 lead into halftime.

We had some breakdowns on defense which lead to some easy buckets and that was a downer for the night because they’re basic cuts that we go over in practice all the time.

We had a twelve point third quarter and were up 34-22 at the end of the third quarter and we finished the game on top 42-28.

Haylee Oliver lead us in scoring with 16 while Tarah Crosby added 6. Once again we got several minutes for all the players and hopefully this will pay off in the near future. It’s a TEAM game and we need everyone to contribute in some way for our TEAM and program to be successful. The game at Harper wasn’t pretty but like an old coaching friend of mine says, "A win is a win no matter what it looks like". When the paper comes out we will have played Merkel on Tuesday, Dec.1st.

On Friday, Dec.4th, we will travel to Ingram for a contest with the Lady Warriors. The following Tuesday, Dec.8th, we travel to Goldthwaite and then we have the Mason Tournament before our first district ballgame which will be at Dublin.

The times for the Goldthwaite game may change a bit if their football team wins this week so we might have to adjust which won’t be a problem. Come out and support our Dillos and Lady Dillos. Phil 4:13.
