San Saba County Pecan Field Day

The San Saba County Pecan Growers will host the annual Pecan Field Day on Monday May 5th at the Civic Center. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the program beginning at 9:00 a.m. There will be a $20.00 registration fee for those who call in and pre-register. The fee will be $25.00 for those who do not pre-register. A catfish lunch will be provided by Betty Ann & Tommy Johnson.

An excellent slate of speakers have been selected by the Pecan Committee. Bill Ree, Extension Pecan Entomologist, will discuss General Pecan IPM; Larry Stein, Extension Horticulturist, will cover Pecan Disease Control, fertilization and general pecan orchard management; and Tommy Thompson, USDA Pecan Specialist, will cover varieties, both new and old. Wade Hibler, CEA Burnet County, will discuss management of yard trees and Cindy Wise, Texas Pecan Growers Association, will update the association’s activities, if she gets back from Georgia in time. Scott Anderson, CEA Brown County will provide the Laws and Regulations portion of the program.

There will be a number of commercial exhibitors on hand to show off their equipment and newest products for your consideration. Time will be made available for you to visit with these sponsors of the Pecan Field Day. A total of seven (7) Continuing Education Units are offered for participants holding Commercial or Private Applicator Licenses. ( 3 General, 2 IPM, and 2 L&R).

This annual educational effort by the San Saba Pecan Growers Association is well attended by producers. Plan to attend and invite someone with an interest in the Pecan industry. Pre-registration is not required, but please do so. This enables Mrs. Johnson to better prepare for your lunch.
