Pierian Study Club installs new officers

The Pierian Study Club met April 10, 2008 at the stately elegant home of Kenda Jordan for the monthly meeting. The co-hostesses were Paula Barrier, Zolly Jones, Joycelyn McRorey, and Patricia Warren. Other members present were: Connie Adams, Ann Allison, Bebe Bagley, Gail Bruner, Millie Burnham, Barbara Gilger, Liz Haug, Kathleen Hawkins, Jeri Jones, Anita Miles, Dorothy Miller, Elsie Millican, Susie Nettleship, Kay Nettleship, Jane Randolph, Sandy Smith, Vickie Stevenson, Geanne Taylor, Martha Roe Terry, Martha Leigh Whitten, Louise Williams, Polly Womack, Anita Felts, Alice Reese, and Maude Ann Kuykendall. There was a special guest, the sister of Jeri Jones, Maxine Guthire of Memphis, Tennessee.

As the ladies arrived they were served a delicious old fashioned pound cake with vanilla icing complimented with a peach compote. There was also the traditional toasted pecans and a white grape punch.

The meeting was called to order by the president, Susie Nettleship, and the club collect was led by Jeri Jones. The secretary, Millie Burnham, gave the roll call and read the minutes. The minutes were approved as read. The treasurer, Louise Williams, gave the financial report.

The project chair, Patricia Warren, reported that the committee has met and the students to receive the scholarship awards have been picked, but the names will not be revealed until the graduation ceremony.

The membership chair, Barbara Gilger, read a letter from Nancy Bannister asking to be changed from an active member to an associate member and this was accepted unanimously. Kathy McEwin submitted her resignation as an associate member and this was accepted with regrets. The new member will be Loy Nell Behrens.

The nominations chair, Liz Haug, announced some changes in the original nominations. Ann Alison is nominated for corresponding secretary in the place of Polly Womack and Elsie Millican is nominated for historian/librarian in the place of Nancy Bannister. This change was accepted unanimously.

Joycelyn McRorey announced that the EMS is now forming a new class and needs meals provided. Many members immediately volunteered for this service to the community.

The president presented ideas from the Chamber of Commerce. The president also read the thank you acknowledgment from Cherry Kay Lange.

It was announced that the Visionary Committee for San Saba would be meeting shortly after the Pierian meeting at the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church for any interested parties.

Concluding the business meeting the officers for 2008-2009 were installed by the president, Susie Nettleship. Each outgoing officer presented a wand to the new officer. The officers for 2008 are:

The entertainment chair, Jane Randolph, announced that the end of year guest evening will be at the home of Kathleen Hawkins on May 8, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. with co-hostesses: Ann Alison, Millie Burnham, Clione Rochat, Dorothy Miller, Sandy Kuykendall, and Sandy Smith.
