Indians ripped by Panthers

The Cherokee Indians had been in every ballgame this season, until they ran afoul of the # 8 ranked Panther Creek Panthers. The game got out of hand in the 1st quarter and ended in the 2nd quarter. The Indians have had a good season despite the win-loss record. They have battled through penalties, turnovers, injuries, and grades to keep the fans entertained and build a foundation for next year.

PC ran off to a 0-24 lead by the 4:46 mark of the 1st quarter. In this time, the Indians had two turnovers. The Indian’s first TD came on a 50 yard run by Tucker Corsi. Corsi kicked the PAT to make the score 8-24. PC scored next on a 20 yard pass play and kicked the PAT to go up 8-32 with 3:13 remaining in the quarter. The Indians put together a good drive that ended with a 4 yard TD run by Corsi. Corsi’s PAT was good, making the score 16-32 with :10 remaining on the clock. PC was able to get in one more TD on a 55 yard run as time expired. After kicking the PAT, PC was ahead 16-40.

The Indians scored 12 seconds into the 2nd quarter on a 50 yard run by Damion Cooks. Corsi added the PAT, making the score 24-40. The Panthers scored the next TD on a 10 yard run. The PAT failed. The Indian’s next possession ended with an interception. PC cashed in on a 19 yard run. The PAT was blocked by Shea Crawford. The Panthers were up 24-52 with 5:57 remaining in the half. The Indians lost a fumble to end their possession. PC took 7 seconds to score after the turnover. With the PAT, they were up 24-60. The Indians gave up the ball on an interception to end their next drive. PC converted this into a 20 yard TD run. The PAT failed, leaving the score at 24-66. The Indian’s next possession ended on a fumble. With :20 left in the half, PC scored on a 9 yard pass and kicked the PAT to go up 24-74. The game ended at the half by the 45 point rule.

Division II District 13 will be represented by Panther Creek as the district champ and Paint Rock as the runner-up.
