How about those ‘Dillos! It is such an exciting time in our community! The San Saba Armadillo Football Team success has certainly fueled the excitement and enthusiasm that we feel at school and in the town. It is so fun to have the community come out to the games and support these student athletes. We certainly carry with us a large crowd of folks each and every time we go to an out of town game. This reminds me of our girls playoff games during last season. As well, it reminds me of the great success that our student athletes are experiencing in all programs and in academics. How do our students get to this point of success? It comes from hard work, commitment, and a dedicated group of coaches, teachers, parents and community members to remain dedicated to their success. Don’t forget, they are students first and then athletes, and we are so proud that they can be successful at all levels.

In most years, our community and our school district is situated such that we fall out of the coverage area of the Austin, Brownwood, Abilene and San Angelo newspapers and television stations. The bad news sometimes always finds its way to the media, but traditionally, the good news does not. In the previous two years, the successes of our baseball team, and the girls basketball team helped fuel a bit of interest. The golf and tennis programs were flying on the radar as well. Finally, the success of the football team helped our school and community gain some great exposure. This type of media exposure only helps bring interest to our community and to our school district.

In the San Angelo Standard Times last week, sports writer, Mike Lee featured the Armadillos in his Thursday, October 29 column and again the Armadillos had a nice write-up on Saturday, October 31. I would encourage you to go search out these articles by accessing the website at www.gosanangelo.com . Once at this site, you can use the search to find the articles by either using “Mike Lee San Saba” or just the words “San Saba”.

The Armadillos also received notification that they have been honored as Dave Campbell’s Army Strong Football Team of the Week. For the third straight year, TexasFootball.com is proud to partner with the U.S. Army for the Army Strong Team of the Week throughout the Texas high school football season. Each week, TexasFootball.com and the U.S. Army join together to select one team from every classification in high school football that demonstrated the qualities exhibited within the Army – those include leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team. Each is awarded the Army Strong Team of the Week by local officials from the U.S. Army at a school assembly or pep rally.

We hope you will come out and support our student athletes in their final home game against the Coleman Bluecats on Friday, November 6, beginning at 7:30 pm. Please recall that this final game will feature our seniors and their parents as it is Parent Night at this final regular season game.

San Saba ISD also would like to thank Skeebo Norris from KBAL for the coverage this season and for starting the Kick-Off Kid of the Week – this has been a great deal of fun for our kids. As well, Karen Faught and the San Saba News for the coverage and to Alamo Pecan for hosting Coffee with Coach each Friday morning. Thanks too to the Booster Club for their ongoing support of all our programs.
