San Saba High School Cross Country Boys and Danessa Vasquez Head to Regional
Thursday, November 5, 2009 • Posted November 5, 2009

The district cross country meet was held on Tuesday, October 27, rather than the scheduled Monday, October 26th because of rain. The high school ran in the morning in almost ideal conditions, while the Jr. High ran in the wind in the afternoon.

The Varsity Boys of San Saba were beaten by 2 points by Dublin for the championship. A great effort by the guys from San Saba to qualify for regional. In the girls, Danessa Vasquez came in third to also qualify for regional. These runners will compete in Lubbock at Mae Simmons Park on November 7, 2009. Danessa will run at 9:00 a.m. with the boys following at 9:30 a.m.

Diego Gonzalez led the boys by winning the individual championship. Hector Paez came in 6th and Pedro Prado came in 8th as other medal winners.

In the Jr. High portion of the meet, the 7th grade girls came in second and the 7th grade boys came in third.

Leading the girls was Shellby Buttler coming in 2nd, McKenna Maxcey 5th and A.J. Gamboa 8th to win medals. Gabe Zimmer came in 3rd to lead the guys and Ridge Smith was 9th to win a medal, speeding up by 1:11 from his time last Monday at Brady.

We had several runners run their best time at the meet, while at the same time we had some who slowed down.

These San Saba runners had a great year, but we are looking for better things in the future. We thank Coach Pannell for his support as our AD. We also thank the administration for their support. Jackie Dyer has also been a tremendous help. And last but not least, we thank all you parents who made sure your children made it for practice and supported them throughout the year. Cross Country is not an easy sport, but it can be a foundation for all other sports.
