San Saba Tennis Team qualifies seven players for regionals

On March 31st and April 1st, the 6-AA District Tennis Tournament was held at Rose Park in Abilene. San Saba qualified seven players for regionals and the Girls Team won the District Championship. Qualifying for regionals were Tayler Hiber, Sophia Flores, Hannah Crosby, Kara Davis, DeLana Cisneroz, Justin Barker and Chase Key. Tayler Hibler won first place in girls singles by defeating last years champion and 3rd place winner at regionals, Mallory Briggs from Jim Ned by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Hannah Crosby and Sophia Flores won first place in girls doubles by defeating teammates DeLana Cisneroz and Kara Davis in the finals 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. DeLana Cisneroz and Kara Davis came back and won second place in a playback match against Burson-Burson from Jim Ned 6-1, 6-2. Justin Barker and Chase Key came in second place in boys doubles by defeating Knox and Pfingstem from Wall 6-3,6-3 in a playback match for second place.

Casey Phillips just missed going to regionals for the fourth year as he lost in a hard fought match in a playback match for second place to Taylor Lloyd of Jim Ned 2-6, 6-3,6-3. Miranda Wilson and Derek Sears came in third place in mixed doubles as they also lost in a playback match for second place to Bubenik and Talley from Wall 6-1, 6-1. Tarah Crosby came in fourth place in girls singles.

Quarterfinalists were Reid Casco in boys singles, Kobe Cisneroz and Diego Gonzales in boys doubles, Ann Carpenter and John Henry in mixed doubles.

The girls team won the district team championship and the boys team came in third place behind Wall and Jim Ned.

In the JV Division Ryan Parks won first place in boys singles, Regan Hartranft came in 4th place in girls singles and Kayce Ellis and Kayla Ellis won 4th place in girls doubles. The JV Boys came in second place as a team and the JV Girls came in 3rd place.

Regionals will be on April 23-24, at Abilene Christian University in Abilene.
