Thursday, October 22, 2009 • Posted October 22, 2009

Last Thursday, the San Saba JV team traveled to Early to take on the Longhorns. An opening drive score, capped off with a run of 8 by Zack Davis, put the Armadillos in front 6-0. The two point conversion was no good. Early controlled the ball on offense as well and also scored. Their two point conversion was also no good resulting in a 6-6 score after one full quarter.

In the second quarter both defenses held the opposing offenses in check. The Armadillo defense was led by Diego Montoya, Russell Lowe, Joe Lindsey and Juan Ortega. Late in the quarter, the Dillos mounted an offensive drive. Again, Zack Davis scored on a run from inside the 10 yard line. The two point conversion was a pass from Clayton Perry to Luke Cox. This made the halftime score 14-6 in favor of the Armadillos.

In the third quarter, San Saba moved the ball well again behind the blocking of Aaron Perez, Connor Arrington, Michael McKinnerney and Nathan Amstead. Once in the red zone, San Saba handed the ball to Russell Lowe, who scored on a short run and was given the ball on the two point conversion making the attempt good.

During the fourth quarter, the defense played well and the offense scored one more time. The quarterback, Clayton Perry, began to scramble from 35 yards out. Thanks to a strategic block by Celestino Aguirre, Perry found his way into the end zone. The Dillos then attempted to kick the point after try. Juan Carlos Garcia booted the ball through the uprights making the score 29-12 in favor of San Saba. Early drove the ball with limited time and found the end zone, and the conversion was good. San Saba recovered the on-side kick and simply ran the time off the clock. The Armadillos won the football game 29-18. The JV have off this week and will resume play on October 29th. They will play here at Rogan Field against Comanche at 6:00. This win makes the JV record (5-3) and (2-2) in district. We thank you for all of your support.
