It may be open week in football, but the business of school never ceases. This is a REALLY big week in the lives of our San Saba High School Teachers. Friday, October 23, which is an early release day for students, marks the day that SSHS teachers get their new Apple Laptop Computers. In a two-day professional development session - Friday and Saturday - the teachers will be trained on how to use the various components of the computer and the software that is provided with the laptop. Please recall that the San Saba High School received funding from the Vision 2020 Grant. This grant will provide laptops to teachers and laptops to all high school students. As well, the campus will be receiving projectors, document cameras, iPods, and Smartboards. Before the students receive their laptops, the teachers must go through intensive training so that they will know how to use the laptop and software to improve instruction in the classroom. Each of the three campuses is wireless, meaning that students and teachers can have access to their files and to the internet as they travel through the campus. Don’t worry about internet safety.San Saba ISD uses a filtering software provided by the Education Service Center (ESC XV) called Lightspeed. This filtering software prevents students from accessing information that should not be accessed. In the coming weeks, we will post pictures to the website and publish in the newspaper and write articles regarding the progress of our technology projects. We are so very proud of our teachers and their attitude in taking on this new challenge. The excitement that we see each day in anticipation of this technology quest is very rewarding...Stay tuned!
