If the guys who report the weather are anywhere near right, we just might be getting some rain this week. So far this past week the weather has been wonderful. Just like in the story about the three bears when Goldie Locks said “Not too hot and not too cold just right.”

Jackie and Charlene Brister; Phillip, Bobbie Morris and Steve; Shari Raesz went elk hunting in New Mexico recently and Jackie got a nice elk. The weather was 28 degrees one day, but everyone stayed warm by the camp fire. Phillip and Bobbie returned home on a Monday and missed out helping to dress the elk. The next day after they left Jackie got his elk and Steve helped to dress the animal. Every minute of the trip was enjoyed by all who went.

Jackie and Charlene got back home with plenty of time to help with the Bend fish fry.

The fish fry, cake auction and silent auction event went off with near perfect weather Saturday night with a nice crowd attending and of course the fish and trimmings were about the best and the desserts seem to be a big hit also. There was plenty of fish and several were seen going back for seconds. Many thanks go out to the ladies who decorated the tables, as they were beautiful. The funds raised will go to support the community center for another year.

There is sadness in the area for the loss of a long time resident. Barbara Jean Marley Jones passed away Saturday in her sleep. She will be buried at the Sand Cemetery beside the love of her life Wesley Jones. Barbara will be greatly missed by all of her friends and especially by her family. She will leave a large hole in the community.

Shirley and Jerome Meischen watched the UT and OU game from home Saturday. Shirley could not even jump up and down to yell and get UT on the right track, because she had fallen earlier in the week and broke a rib. At half time the close score didn’t keep them from enjoying the wonderful meal that Sylvia Stinnett had prepared.

Glenda Scroggins is still very ill and it was reported that she was removed from rehab back to the hospital. The family needs everyone’s prayers.

Colbert and Trent Rockafellow were in over the weekend visiting grandparents Howard and Carol Rockafellow. They attended the Bend fish fry Saturday and listened to their grandpa auction off the cakes. They were also lucky enough to win one of the door prizes.

A belated happy birthday goes out to Carol Rockafellow whose birthday was October 9.

Happy birthday greetings go out to Glenda Scroggins whose birthday is October 23, to John Thomas Burke who will celebrate a birthday October 27.

Congratulations go out to Dave and Jamie Garrett who will observe their anniversary October 27.
