Thursday, October 15, 2009 • Posted October 15, 2009

On Wednesday, September 23, 2009, the veterans of the Wiley B. Murray Post No. 27 held their regular stated meeting. The honored guest was Texas State Representative Harvey Hilderbran of the 53 District. Hilderbran presented the veterans with the Texas Service Medal on behalf of the Adjutant General of the State of Texas.

In 1933, the 43rd Texas Legislature authorized The Texas Service Medal. It was awarded to all citizens of the State of Texas who served honorably in the forces of the United States including the Army, Navy and Marine Corps during the Spanish-American War, Philippine Campaign, Mexican Punitive Expedition, Mexican Border Service, World War I, or any other service with Armed Forces which the United States should in the future recognize as a military campaign by a distinctive service ribbon.
