The San Saba ISD Board of Trustees met for a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, October 12th in the Central Administration Office. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order, established a quorum followed by prayer and everyone joined for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Barker gave the results of the October 6th election to the Board members to verify the addition.
The verified results are 134 FOR and 221 AGAINST.
Students of the month from each campus were recognized. The Principals explained why each one was chosen before they presented their certificate. Elementary Student of the month, Triston McGehee; Middle School Student of the month, Britanny Rixse; High School Student of the month, Dusty Parum. Students were accompanied to the meeting by family members.
Superintendent Leigh Ann Glaze gave the following staff recognition: Paul Stewart and Scott
Miller - fence at Rogan Field and the Field Paint; Brooke Calcote - 9/11 salute and leadership class
activities; Alesha Rogers - Dilloettes and FCCLA; Armadillo Football Team and Coaching Staff ; CSOPE teacher leaders - Elementary, Mrs. McCoury and Mrs. Culpepper; Middle School, Mrs. McIntosh and Mrs. McGilvray; High School, Mrs. Welch and Mrs. Spears; Alton Tinney - Transporting and blowing up the Tunnel for pep rallies and games assisted by Jackie Dyer; Amy Bohensky - a new program for school involvement and extra curricular activities; Lauren Shero - Volunteer; Elizabeth Chambers - SCOPE committee member on the state level and cheerleading duties.
Communications from Superintendent Glaze included the following:
A. Taking a 1991 and 1992 buses with very high miles to Llano Auction the end of the month.
B. The City of San Saba wants to negotiate or trade in-kind work for a 19 passenger bus.
C. Scheduled November 16th for the annual audit.
D. Reported on Technology projects - Stimulus finding, Vision 2020 Grant, T3 Grant.
E. The Principals will take care of truant duties on hteir campuses.
F. The district Re-alignment date was set for October 15th, for grades 9-12 enrollment.
G. The Little Football Team used Rogan Field for a game Saturday Oct. 10th and all expenses
have been paid in full.
H. Checking prices and work of vendors for track restoration.
I. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will use a bus on Saturday to attend a Baylor game.
J. The make-up date for Legislature training is scheduled for Thurs. Dec. 3, 5:30 p.m.
K. The November board meeting will be Monday, November 9th at 6 p.m.
L. A Budget workshop will be October 22nd at 9 a.m. to adjust the budget because the levy didnot pass.
The Board approved the following consent agenda:
1. Minutes from September 14, 2009, regular meeting.
2. Allow and pay bills.
3. Financial report.
4. Accepted donations
The first reading of local policies from TASB Policy Review seminar was reviewed.
Assistant Superintendent, Ashley Stewart, reported on current tests, retests and CSCOPE.
Athletic Director Pannell gave a report on Cross Country, Football, and realignment day set for Thursday, October 15th.
Elementary school Principal Shackelford reported 268 students. Today there were 22 absent at the start of the school day and nine sent home with a virus. Field trips are scheduled this fall instead of in the spring this year. The 4th graders enjoyed their trip to the Museum and are writing thank you’s. The Kindergarten class is scheduled to go to the museum in San Saba and a trip to Sweetberry Farms for other grades.
Middle School Principal Bohensky reported 208 students and also a large number on the sick list. The Cross Country team and football teams are working hard to achieve their best. Field trips have been scheduled and also a costume parade on Saturday, October 30th.
High School Principal Stewart reported 204 students. Very good support for Cross Country, Band and Football programs; the Band to Brady on Sat. October 17th; Honor Society inductees will be October 22nd; Tech training for computers are coming up and also the Powder Puff football game (will Superintendent Glaze be involved in this?). October 26th will be the District Cross Country and the month ending with a Halloween Dance on Oct. 31st. Tyler Lacky, Pete Torres and Lakin Miller are working on an abuse event, Take a HAND, Take a STAND.
President Barker adjourned the meeting, announcing a short break before the Executive Session. During the Executive meeting the board approved a pesonal leave for Kathy Ellis until May 2, 2010 and hired Jenny Spinks until May 2, 2010.
