Homecoming week is history and we want to congratulate all classes that participated in homecoming events. Homecoming spirit days and the bonfire and pep rallies were all fun. Grades 9-12 nominated their respective class sweethearts for homecoming queen honors. Miss Ashley Ferguson, sophomore class nominee, was selected as the 2009 Homecoming Queen at halftime ceremonies. Miss Kensie Green is the Band Sweetheart. Miss Marsha McMillan was honored as a four-year senior band student. Pearl Cantrell and Hal Lane Jr. were selected Coming Home Queen and King. Thanks to all who support our Richland Springs youth.

It was a great week for Coyote football. The junior varsity played at Cherokee and came away with a 45-32 victory. With declining numbers in student enrollment at Richland Springs, we may be in Division II instead of Division I after UIL realignment is announced later this month. There is the possibility that Richland Springs could be in the same football district with Cherokee next year. The junior high team played at Eden and came away with a 26-19 victory. The varsity Coyotes blanked Eden 50-0 in front of a large homecoming crowd. This game was also the first district game for the Coyotes. It was a cool, picture-perfect autumn night, and was a great culmination to a week full of spirit. Many alumni attended the game and were treated to a great halftime performance by the Coyote Band. It was great to see the football players, who are also band members, play in the band’s halftime performance. The cheerleaders performed well and kept spirit high all week.

The Richland Springs junior high will play Robert Lee’s junior high at Richland Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15th. The junior varsity will play Robert Lee’s junior varsity at Richland Springs on Thursday immediately following the junior high game. The varsity Coyotes will play at Robert Lee at 7:30 on Friday night in the second district game. Come out and support our young athletes and cheerleaders and band in UIL competition.

Most sophomores and juniors took the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14th. Students have reviewed PSAT prep materials in Mrs. Hall’s English class prior to the test. Juniors taking the test are eligible for National Merit Scholarship recognition.

Mark your calendars for the Booster Club’s 3rd Annual Chili Supper (5:30) and Bingo (7:00) on Saturday, October 24th. Everyone is invited every Tuesday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m. for the Booster Club’s pot luck dinner and review of the previous week’s game film in the cafetorium.

Community involvement is the key to our success!
