Rain, cold, more rain and more cold this past weekend. It sure put a damper on some of the outdoor activities. By the time you read this (according to the weather reports) you will have the air-conditioners back on and the furnace turned down.
The weather didn’t cooperate with the Bend street sale this past weekend, but hopefully it can be rescheduled for another weekend. The big Historical Fire House Biker Rally will be held in Lampasas and some will be coming out to Bend this next weekend, so if you are interested in seeing the bikes drop by Bad Bob’s Bend store as there will be some of the bikers out and about. Bob also reported that the catfish are biting.
Jerome and Shirley Meischen went on a trip to see the country and to pay a visit to see their granddaughter Quincee Gideon who is attending Lipcomb College in Nashville, Tenn. to get her masters. The Longhorns had an open weekend before their game on October 10, with Colorado so it was a good time to take a trip. On their way to see Quincee they drove through Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois and Kentucky. They reported the trees were beginning to turn and the scenery was beautiful. After spending some time visiting Quincee who they were happy to see they made it home in time to watch the Longhorns play Colorado Saturday and see their grandson Blake Gideon intercept a pass.
October 17 is the big one when the Longhorns will be playing Oklahoma at the Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas and you know the Meischen’s along with Longhorn fans will be watching that game.
Jackie and Charlene Brister returned from the Elk hunt, but no report yet on their trip. May have the details next week.
This weekend was one of the few weekends that Kerry Marley of Katy didn’t come in to visit Rufus and Tommie Cobern and work on restoring his car, as he had to stay in Katy for his company’s annual Bar-B-Q. Kerry is one of the cookers. His sister and family Tanya, Jeff and Ashley Chalfant of Cedar Park did visit over the weekend.
Glenda Scroggins is reported to be making a slow recovery from her surgery and will be spending some time in rehab. Keep the family in your prayers.
Barbara Jones had a busy weekend. She was invited over to Randy and Carol Reeds Friday night for supper and games afterward. Saturday she and Carol spent the day in Killeen shopping and having a bite to eat before returning home and more game playing Saturday night.
The Price family was in Clyde Saturday to help celebrate the birthday of Cassidy Price their great granddaughter who was a big “two”. Early Sunday they were on the road again to Hamilton to attend the White Reunion that is held each year in October. This year the weather was cold and rainy so all picture taking had to be taken inside. In years past in October the weather cooperated much better and the pictures were taken outside in the sunshine.
The Bend Community will have their annual fish fry, cake and silent auction Saturday, October 17 at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is urged to attend and enjoy the fish cooked by Jackie Brister and of course sample some of the good desserts that go along with the fish. There should be lots of nice items on the silent auction table and wonderful cakes to bid on.
Happy birthday goes out to Dennis Scroggins who will have a birthday October 16, to Abigail Leigh January who will celebrate a birthday October 18, to Leon Eckhoff who will celebrate a birthday October 20.
Congratulations to Bill and Jo Price who will celebrate an anniversary October 22.
