San Saba 8th grade boys fall to Bangs

After a 2 hour lightening delay, the San Saba 8th Grade Dillos lost to a good Bangs Dragon team by a score of 28-20 at Rogan Field last Thursday night. The Dillos had a bad case of fumbleitis as they fumbled five times loosing 4 of them.

San Saba kicked to Bangs to start the game. Jordan Watson, Kolton Ellis, Kristian McCoury, Kelan Verette, Ashton Kruger, and Cosme Diaz played good defense. Bangs ran 2 running plays and one pass before Kolton Ellis sacked the Dragon Quarterback causing a fumble. Daniel Calderon picked up the fumble and ran 20 yards for a Dillo score. The PAT failed 6-0 Dillos. San Saba kicked to Bangs. Good defense by Ashton Krueger, Kristian McCoury, Dallas Caldwell and J.T. Hibler got the ball back, unfortunately the Dillos fumbled the ball back to Bangs. The Dillo defense held again on plays by Jordan Watson, Kelan Verette, Kolton Ellis, Brian Rogers, Dustin Sloan, Ismael Ramirez and Daniel Calderon. The Dillo offense got the ball back but fumbled again this time. Bangs capitalized with a touchdown. The pass for the extra points was good, 8-6 Bangs.

The second quarter started as Bangs kicked off. Jordan Watson had runs of 6, 4, and 5 yards, Kelan Verette added 20. The Dillos drove the ball to the Dragon 5 yard line. Jordan Watson ran in for the score. The PAT failed, 12-8 Dillos. San Saba kicked off. The Dragons drove the ball down the field with a series of passes. A 30 yard pass play netted another score. The PAT failed, 14-12 Bangs. Bangs kicked to San Saba. Watson lost 3 yards, Verette gained 7. Watson added 10. The Dillos lost a few yards and eventually punted. Bangs passed for another score before the half. The PAT was good, 22-12 Bangs at the half.

The 3rd quarter saw Bangs kick to San Saba. Watson ran for 8 yards behind the blocking of Daniel Calderon, Cosme Diaz, Asa Harbour, Cameron Rossi, Ismael Ramirez, Wesley Gates, Brandon Amstead, Gunnar Hibler, Kristian McCoury, Dylan Rosales, Brian Rogers, and Jerry Davila. Jordan Watson raced 60 yards for a touchdown. It was called back for holding. San Saba fumbled their next play. Bangs took over and scored on a pass play. The PAT failed, 28-12 Bangs.

Bangs kicked to San Saba to start the 4th quarter. San Saba threw 3 incomplete passes and punted. The punt was muffed by Bangs, Jordan Watson fell on the fumble to give San Saba good field position. A pass from Verette was incomplete. Verette scrambled for 8 yards. A 30 yard pass from Kelan Verette to Jordan Watson got the score. A pass from Verette to Watson got the extra points, 28-20 Bangs to end the scoring. An outside attempt by San Saba failed and Bangs ran out the clock. It was a hard fought game and a tough loss for the Dillos. The 8th Dillos play Brady in Brady Thursday night.
