San Saba Senior Center sending Christmas Stockings to overseas military
Thursday, October 1, 2009 • Posted October 1, 2009

Members of the San Saba Senior Center are busily working on a project to send a Texas-style greeting to those in the military who will be overseas for Christmas. Denim Christmas stockings shaped like a cowboy boot with seasonal trims will be filled with items to bring a little cheer.

Betty Wilson and Martha Roe Terry are heading the group, with additional help from Sharon Hayes, Louis Oswald, Fannie Crawford, Una Mae Hyatt and Linda Mixon. The stockings have been cut out and are ready for decorating and writing personal notes. Then they will be filled with items and packed for shipping.

Items still needed to fill the stockings include: small individual sizes of beef jerky, chewing gum, granola bars, individually wrapped hard candy, store-bought cookies, pre-sweetened packets of Kool-Aid. Personal items, motel-sized, such as foot powder, hand sanitizer, Q-tips, moist wipes, lip balms, sunscreen, shaving gel, toothpaste, toothbrushes.

Local items such as postcards, bumper stickers are also welcome to let them know the gifts are from Texas.

Please drop off donations of the above items to the Senior Center at 704 E. Storey, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The stockings must be filled, packed and shipped no later than November 1, 2009.

If you have specific names and addresses of people serving overseas, please contact the Senior Center at 372-5833.
