Bill and Jo were attending the RSVP volunteer’s luncheon Tuesday at Gage’s Bar-B-Q along with others. Jackie and Charlene Brister also attended and Jackie Brister reported that his granddaughter Lauren Brister, who lives at Palacios was returning home from Houston where she is attending school and she had an accident.

Lauren called home and thought she had really damaged her car, but as it turned out she had only knocked a hole in her radiator after hitting a six foot alligator. We out here around the Bend are familiar with hitting something on the road, but are nearly always a deer, raccoon, armadillo, hog and sometimes a slow moving possum, but never an alligator, what a shock that would be. Guess Lauren could always have a purse and a pair of shoes made out of her kill.

Hopefully she wouldn’t be like the blond that wanted a pair of alligator shoes, but couldn’t afford the price. It was reported that the blond went to a shoe store to buy a pair of alligator shoes, but when she saw the price she couldn’t afford them. The shop keeper feeling sorry for her told her she could always go and kill her own alligator to get a pair of shoes, so off she went. Sometime later she went back into town and the shop keeper asked her if she had any luck killing an alligator and to his surprise she replied “yes, but that after killing several she gave up because none of them were wearing shoes.”

Jackie and Charlene were in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week to attend the marriage of granddaughter Kodi Charlene Simpson. Charlene remarked that she was the only granddaughter that was named after her.

Jerome and Shirley along with Shirley’s sister Johnnie watched the Longhorns play the University of Texas-El Paso from home as they were unable to book seats on a plane leaving the San Saba airport. They reported that Blake Gideon number 21 caught an interception which was a thrill for all the family to see. A penalty was called on Blake, but it wasn’t Blake, it was number 12. The Longhorns have an open date October 3rd and next game will be playing Colorado October 10, in Austin.

Glenda Scroggins had surgery at Scott and White last Wednesday and is expected to be back at home sometime this week.

Everyone is reminded about the Bend street sale that will take place October 10th. Be sure and bring your own table and chairs to set up and spend the day. Mark your calendar for the fish fry, cake auction and silent auction that will take place at the Bend Community center October 17th. Jackie Brister and his crew will be cooking the fish. The money raised at the cake auction is to be used to keep the center going.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Cassidy Price and Danny Clark who will celebrate a birthday October 4th, to Jason Hendrick whose birthday is October 5th, Raymond Hicks, Joshua Anderson and Keith Lemons will celebrate their birthday October 8th.
