San Saba Ladies Golf Champion for 2009 is Sandra Baskin! Congratulations to Sandra! She is an awesome golfer, great competitor, and on top of that she’s just plain fun to be with! Sandra was Club Champion in 2003 and 2007, so this is her third victory. Runner Up was Sandee Hartley. Anita Miles won the President’s Flight. Debbie Lee and Becky Hardin also played in the Club Championship Tournament.

Bob Whitten is the Men’s Club Champion for 2009! Congratulations to Bob! It was a battle to the end with the Runner Up, Rick Baskin. Bob was Club Champion in 2002 and 2004.

Jerry Mintor is the Senior Men’s Club Champion! Congratulations to Jerry! He was the defending champion from 2008. Runner Up was Ralph Wilson.

There were only 31 participants in the Club Championship but it was a great two day event, ending on Sunday with the dinner and annual meeting. The Chairman of the Advisory Board, Bubby Adams, gave a welcome speech and complimented the city on what a great job they are doing with the improvements to the San Saba River Golf Course. He also gave much deserved credit for the condition and improvement of the course to our golf pro, Keith Harris. He also thanked the Ladies Association for all they have done through the years for the San Saba River Golf Course and announced that Larry and Becky Hardin have very generously donated the funds for a second fountain to be installed in the pond on the #5 hole and thanked the Hardins! The Chair then went over the new rules that the board and the city have sanctioned to begin January 1, 2010. However, some of the rules, as the Chair announced, will begin immediately, such as the cart trail rules. You must use the ninty degree rule and the distance from the greens and tee boxes and sign in for play. These rules have always applied but the members have become lax and now we expect every member to make a real effort to adhere to these rules for the betterment of the golf course.

The meeting was concluded with a delicious dinner of pork steaks, beans, potato salad, green salad, rolls, and bananna pudding! Betty Ann Johnson and her son, Tommy Johnson, were the caterers. We are so fortunate to have Betty Ann to always be there to prepare our meals. She does it with such grace and ease! She’s always smiling and in a good humor and her food is always the best! Hats off to Betty Ann!

September 17, 2009 the Ladies Golf Association met for play day with the Chair for September, Sandee Hartley, calling for the Nassau Game, winner of the front nine, winner of the back nine, and over all winner less your handicap. Sandee won all three as she had a great day in the sun! She also scored the Low Gross and Low Net for the day. Dorothy Sterner chipped in to win the chip in pot! Other players for the day were Jo Ann Snow, Hattie Rogers, Becky Hardin, Jo Anne Hardy, Janet Hoyt, Eilene Roberts, and Anita Miles. After play the President, Anita Miles, had a called meeting wherein the members voted to purchase new golf shirts. If you are a member and would like one of the new shirts please contact Janet Hoyt.

Jo Anne Hardy, Jo Ann Snow, Hattie Rogers, Sandee Hartley, and Anita Miles going to attend the Senior Ladies of Texas Golf Tournament in Bastop, Texas on October 7 & 8, 2009. This event is held twice a year and the ladies always look forward to it. There are approximately 100 ladies from all over Texas that participate. We hope to be competitive and come back home with some winners; so we need to be out there “swinging!”
